In vitro
fertilisation has become quite a famous procedure nowadays. The very first baby
to be born through this method was named Louise Brown and was born on 25th
July, 1978 in England. Since the success of this procedure, doctors have been
searching for more ways in which fertility problems can be solved and couples
be given the opportunity to bear a child of their own. There has been an
increase in the research of advancements of fertility technologies. Before
couples didn’t have any options when they encountered any fertility problems,
but now they are provided with several options from which they can choose the
best on for themselves.
But before
you are given different options to choose from, both the husband and the wife
have to go through some serious testing and screening to identify exactly what
the problem is. The reproductive endocrinologist evaluates both the partners
for defects in their reproductive systems. Tests may vary from couple to couple
and your doctor would be able to suggest you appropriately the most useful ones
for you. There are two main types of fertility tests which are performed-
screening and specific.
Screening
These tests
are mainly to check the general conditions to help and protect the patient and
their potential child. Though the screening tests can vary from clinic to
clinic, they generally check for Aids virus or HIV, Hepatitis B and C,
syphilis, rubella, varicella, reproductive tract infections like Chlamydia etc.
All these tests must be done from reliable clinics to avoid complications in
the future for the patient as well as the baby.
Specific
These
specific tests are performed on women to evaluate various aspects such as
ovulation calendars, hormone levels etc. Various imaging tests are also done
find out any find of defects or abnormalities. The specific tests for en are
mainly sperm analyses.
