A brief introductionon IVF

A large range of fertility issues can be overcome with the help of in vitro fertilisation or IVF. In this procedure sperm and an egg are fused together outside the body, in a laboratory with the help of specialised equipment and modern technology. The fertilised egg or the embryo is kept in a protected environment for a few days to grow to a certain point before transferring it into the woman’s uterus. This increases the chances of attaining pregnancy. In vitro fertilisation has helped a lot of couples with fertility issues and helped them get a baby of their own.

Most kinds of fertility problems are handled by this technique. You fertility specialist accompanied with a group of experienced nurses, scientist and counsellors. You will receive a high quality treatment as it is quite expensive and your chances of getting pregnant are more on your first time. An egg from the woman is collected and a sperm from her husband is taken. They are fertilised together in an artificial medium to form the zygote. This is kept in a growth medium to allow it to grow till the blastocyst stage. This embryo is then transferred into the woman’s uterus to implant on its own to the uterine wall to cause pregnancy. When the sperm quality of the male is compromised, the Intracytoplasmic sperm injection technique is used. In this one sperm gets inserted into each of the eggs.

A lot of hormone regulation takes place artificially for the woman to produce the egg on time and make her most suited to attain pregnancy. Hormone injections will be given to you from before the treatment even begins. The follicle stimulating hormone or FSH is administered at the correct moment of the menstrual cycle to produce the eggs effectively and in the correct moment for the process to begin.
